AGILITY!
Agility is a great sport for you and
your cocker! I compete with most of my guys.
Cockers do wonderfully at this
game. Most are pretty food motivated,
and when they realize that they get food for running around and jumping on
things! Yahoo!
To find a local class in agility, search here.
Always attend a class and observe before
you sign up. Do the dogs look happy? Are the students using positive methods?
Does it look safe? Agility should be fun!
If you are located in the Northern
Virginia area, come on by and play! I do free intro lessons
for anyone wanting to start their cocker in this fun sport!
You might want to join AgileAmCockers, an
e-mail list for people interested in doing agility with their cockers.
And check out Jane Mohr's site for training advice.
A general collection
of agility links can be found here.
Before you start, do make sure your
cocker is in god health and not overweight! Many cockers tend to be chubby,
unless their diet is controlled. It is hard on their joints and a lot less fun
for them if they are overweight. (For tips on weight loss for your dog click here or here or here!). Dogs on a reduced calorie diet love longer
healthier lives!
